New Paintball MOD For HL2! Posted on December 22, 2004
Some new news just rode on in! Exciting for me as well since I am a fellow paintballer and am a big fan of DPB
" I want to keep this breif, but I want to tell you what all is going on. Over at Xtreme Paintball
we are starting a new Paintball MOD for HL2! Paintballers, this will be your game of choice as we have put a lot of thought into this game. Check out our FAQ's section to see what all this game has to offer!"
Sounds like a very good MOD indeed. I just hope they can release it before I graduate college :-)

Steam Update Posted on December 14, 2004
I usually don't post these, but I figured none of the other gaming sites have reported it yet so I may as well beat them to it :-)
"Steam
* Source MODs will now automatically appear in the games list
* Improved startup process for Steam
* Fixed crash when creating a backup that would span multiple DVDs
* Fixed a bug that would unnecessarily validate Steam caches after a cache corruption
* Fixed Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes and Codename Gordon failing to backup correctly
* Fixed a bug where the message “the game files will be deleted and re-acquired” would repeat
* Fixed offline mode failing after not connecting to Steam for more than a month
Half-Life 2
* Optimization to the Steam filesystem to reduce game launch and level transition time
Source SDK
* Simplified debug-launch process for MOD developers. MOD developers no longer need to place a config file in their directory
* Added a registry key for MOD developers to use to locate a user’s Steam installation located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\SourceModInstallPath"

Im sorry for the lack of updates, I am trying to figure out a way to totally recode the news section so I can get commenting not annonymous. It is trickier then one would think, but I do believe I half-assed the coding on the site when I first created it :-)

Lack of Updates Posted on November 28, 2004
Sorry everyone for the lack of updates that has plagued GameJack. It has been a busy few weeks for me and will continue to be as such with finals coming up (which I hope to pass quite well). With that said I'll try and get more news up as often as I can, but I would like it if someone would come forward to help me with the news. They would have access to the News Posting Menu, but that would be all.
If you feel you can fill this position, please send word to my e-mail address:

Big bumper news update Posted on November 13, 2004
No, I'm not dead, just really busy with various things. I will make sure this news gets updated at least daily from now on. On with the recent news..
A very cool article has been posted over at Gamespot, it goes into great detail of the development of Half-Life 2 and gives an insight into the world of Valve. Make sure you give that a read
Over at the Natural-Selection Forums, Zunni brings news of more Beta 6 updates:
"
"While many balance issues are still being worked on, here are 4 changes that we are excited to be bringing to the Natural Selection fan-base.
O 2 seperate and different sprites for parasited buildings and players.
O _special removed regardless of settings
O Knife knockback has been removed
O Marines in Sensory Chamber range show up on scent of fear ( even if the alien doesn't have the Scent of Fear upgrade )"

The HL1 mod Shores of Victory
has made their first release and it is available now over at their site

The HL2 mod Insurgency have mocked up a little in-game demo shot for us all to enjoy:
"Here it is. Quite possibly one of the first Half-Life 2 Modification screenshots. It features Tolchok's T-72 model along with Pericolos0's Palm Tree model made in a small environment (using CS: Source textures and prop models) created by Argyll."
Make sure you check out their site!

Unlock HL2 Early? You wish.. Posted on November 9, 2004
According to the chaps over at Boomtown there are reports of some little Trojan's that are going around promising to unlock HL2, then stealing all your Steam details:
"But if you see a program called the Half-Life 2 unlocker, hl2unlock.exe or rft-hl2u then be very wary. These programs claim to unlock the Steam preloads and require the user to be online and connected to Steam at the time."

Black Mesa: Source Posted on November 7, 2004
A modification by the name of 'Black Mesa: Source' sprouted up a little while ago (founded by myself) that would take the foundations of Half-Life 1 and convert the beauty and experience of the Black Mesa Research Facility and reconstruct it on the Half-Life 2 engine. It has been in the works for a little under two months now and has already gotten a team of level designers and a modeller, but it needs some more help! So if you are a modeller, texture artist, programmer or another level designer that wants to help out, stop by their forum and post!
The design and conceptualization is what is primarily underway at this time, so even if you just have some ideas, feel free to post about them!

The New Admin Posted on November 7, 2004
Well hello everyone, I'm Game Jack's new owner Jon 'Kalashnikov' Dominski. Seth Walton was a good administrator as I would stop by and check up on news here every so often to see him working hard on getting news up whenever he could and with that said I hope to do the same. For anyone wondering, Blink is a news writer here (I'm not sure if it was mentioned prior, but I'm just letting you know now) so he'll be bringing you the best info and the best times.
In terms of changes I hope to fix that 'Anonymous' Error present in the comments system as well as any other bugs or glitches that can be found or noted. I am also hoping to get some more submissions for the Dev. Gallery and some more modification interviews for the Interviews section. I hope that all the regulars and new guys will come back and check out these updates when they happen. I promise to give it my all and to help Game Jack reach some new levels.

Mod Updates Posted on November 6, 2004
A few mod updates for everyone to feast upon.
To start off with, First Moon have posted a small update of media on their site:
"Today we are posting three new images - an APC render and two artworks including concept of Buggy. We have also another new team member, Staniol - an excellent artist with skills both in 3D and 2D."
Make sure you check it out on their media page
Next on the list is the sweet looking Bloodthirst.
"Today we bring you a bunch of new model shots, including a first fully skinned model, the SPAS-12 Shotgun. The new models also include the Raging Bull, Desert Eagle and a props car, the BMW. "
Make sure you pay their media page a visit.
Finally, a bunch of members of the halflife.net forums are planning to re-make HL1 from scratch for the Source engine, it sounds interesting and they have some nice media on display already.
Check that out in this thread.

So in effect some of you can get the game from the stores earlier then others.

I AM NOT DEAD!! Posted on October 11, 2004
I dont even know how to begin this, but I will try my best. The site you are looking at, Game-Jack, was hacked on October 5th, as well as my yahoo mail accounts. Foolishly, I have the same password for both, which allowed a hacker to break into my Administration Menu I coded here at Game-Jack. Therefore the code on the site was left untouched, but the hacker had full control over the content of the site.
I have been busy these past few weeks, so I have not updated the site! I leearned of what had happened as of today, when one of my friends called my house crying to see if it was true. I picked up and couldn't believe what I had heard. I went online to see the fears of what I thought had happened had.
I was wondering how this came about, I looked into my yahoo messages to see that there was an email sent to Halflife2.net, and planethalflife.com that I had died in a car accident.
I have leftt the hackers message on the site so people can have an idea of what has happened here this past week. On a final note, I do NOT have a brother named Nick, and If I did die, my friend David Baker would more then likely make the post. I am sorry for the confusion, and want to personally apologize to MJCS-gTFC over at HalfLife Gaming, as well as Planet Half-Life for the confusion.

Shadowed Fates Opens its Doors! Posted on September 24, 2004
"Greetings Half-Life Community! My name is Timothy Sottek, and I am Project Manager of Resurgence Studios, a small partnership of programmers, designers, and artists centered around the Metropolitan D.C. area. I would like to announce the commencement of development of “Shadowed Fates”, a World War II, freeware Half-Life 2 Modification. Shadowed Fates will be like no other World War II game you have experienced. With a mix of real time strategy, first person shooting, and an immersive environment, Shadowed Fates aims to bring the intensity and realism of World War II to your fingertips. Shadowed Fates will be nothing like Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, and even the award winning Call of Duty. Over the coming months of development, news, media, and aspects of our game will unfold for everyone to view. As of now, a description of some of SF’s key components and gameplay highlights can be found at the website http://www.resurgencestudios.com/shadowedfates.html. I hope to receive your input and feedback over the course of development, as I desire to provide the Half-Life community with something they have never experienced before. -Timothy Sottek Project Manager Resurgence Studios"

MechMod Nearly Complete Posted on August 28, 2004
"Firstly, thank you to all the users who have supported our mod from the very start. We expect to see your continuing support and grow from that in the near and long future.
Now, our Half-Life 1 project includes the following 5 mechs:
- VF-1J Valkyrie Alpha (from Robotech)
- AF-49 Silveraxe (from Robotech)
- DeathScythe (from Gundam Wing)
- Freedom (from Gundam Seed)
- MK-II Monster (from Robotech)
All five have been fully modelled, fully skinned, fully animated and are now ingame in our internal alpha. One more step closer to completing our HL-1 project. :-)
You can check out all five of these mechs, plus other ingame screenshots at our gallery page. Visit the gallery by clicking here.
We have also completed all of our maps. All that's left on our side, is some weapon and GFX coding. Once we are through with that, we shall move onto the testing and tweaking phase, and shall release a trailer alongside. Keep watching for more updates, and show your support to the team on our IRC channels and forum."

GameJack turning tides Posted on August 21, 2004
I was working on the site for about 2 hours and leaned back in my chair. You know what I saw? One big project no where close to being done. I started brain storming, and decided this decision. GameJack is offically going to be used for MOD creation SUPPLIES. This means snippets of source code, maps, textures, models; everything that one would need to start a MOD/get supplies for a MOD. All current MODS in progress will be given 2 months to remove all information from GameJack.

Fixing some bugs in their game, Earth Special Forces has released their latest version. "Yes yes! It's finally here, the beta 1.2.1 quick (lol) patch. It did take quite a bit longer
than we expected. Everytime we tried to kick the new version out the door we stumbled across errors that needed to be corrected. So, go get it!" Website: http://www.esforces.com

Pain in the ass! Posted on July 30, 2004
Yes, I've been having one of those days. My internet kept crashing and I didn't really have that much time to look into it. When I looked into the porblem, it look as if someome was DOS attacking my connection. Even my SMC router was saying I was beling flooded from an internal IP address. I just reloaded one of my private servers that has VPN access, so I thought I was hacked. In the end, 4 hours, and 6 dents later, I found out that my server had a chatty NIC and was flooding my network crashing my internet. No work has been done on the site, but since I have internet now, that will change soon :-)

Forsaken MOD Released Posted on July 17, 2004
The year is now 2009; three years after a terrible accident that nearly erased all human life on earth. All that is left are the empty shells of the once prospering cities and towns. Everything we knew and everyone we loved are now gone.
Few survived the deadly killer, lurking ominously in the shadows, but those who did emerged into a world void of compassion; a lonely, empty place - desolate and unforgiving.
After the near apocalypse, three main groups, or factions, emerged into the daylight; each with their own vision of a new world.
Forsaken is the depiction of these three factions, and their struggle for power, territory and ultimately survival, within this dark new era of human existence.
Welcome to the world of Forsaken...

So far the current members will have to be put on hold. We do not have any MODS in developement so this should not be a big deal.

Jedi Timeline, A FarCry / HL MOD Posted on July 16, 2004
Looking into this very interesting MOD. It was funny because I was just thinking about installing JK2 Outkast when reading about this MOD. The multiplayer info is as follows...
Depending on the mission you may be playing a co-op round where you must defeat the AT-AT walkers trying to blow up the shield generators. Also another play type is capture the plans where the Light side is trying to capture plans of the death star, and the Dark side is keeping them from you. And the last play type will be Team round base, where it is an all out between The Light & Dart Sides, or all out Death Match (Jedi vs. Sith). Any battle in the Star Wars universe can be made into a Multi Player map.
Needless to say I look foward to seeing this MOD when it is complete. You can check out the full story over over at http://www.jeditimeline.com/

Attitude of Gamers Article Posted on July 15, 2004
I have written up an article of what has become of todays gamers. The attitudes when one wins, the attitudes when ones lose. I conducted a test, where I am playing a game, I will beat the person and not say a word; while I watch the accusations and cussing fly at me. Be sure to check it out here!

Web Updates Posted on July 12, 2004
For the past 2 months I have been working on the members ability to hire programmers onto teams and have the leader set permissions on users for certain code. This has taken a long time to make sure that the code that one group writes, stays with that group and can not be hacked or leaked. However, I still have not accomplished enough on this task to hit our launch date at the end of this month. I am going on a vacation to Panama Beach, Key West, and Daytona later on this week. That will push back the launch date for 2 weeks. If you are looking for a news job, contact me and I can set you up with a news posting position with Game Jack.

New Hosting!! Posted on June 23, 2004
After a long search, approx 2 months of solid searching, the good boys over at HLGaming.com gave us free hosting provided by EdgeNetwork.org. From this point on, bandwidth should no longer be an issue. The private server in Ohio only had 50KB out, which was causing some slow load times. Although out new hosting service has a little different version of PHP, there may be minor errors through the site. But they will be fixed soon. Now sign up, and get on those MODS!

New Updates! Posted on June 16, 2004
I have added a new feature for you currently designing MODS. It is a managing tool for your current projects. You will know what I mean when you see it. Currently, we are going to keep using the private server for the webhosting, but I feel that we are going to be switching to LunarPages. No offical word on that as of yet.
